FEE: $225 CAD (+ tools) (If you have a Canadian bank account and are able to use e-transfer, the fee can be $215. Please email Kisyuu.)
This online 6-week course will be perfect for those who are interested in learning Japanese calligraphy and acquiring basic skills while getting some instructions from Kisyuu on the spot. It is suitable for people who prefer to learn comfortably at home or live outside of Vancouver, Canada. You will be able to improve both your writing skills and the balance between mind and body.
During six weeks, we will go over the basics of Japanese calligraphy, including:
Four treasures of calligraphy tools (brush, ink, paper & ink stone case)
How to hold the brush and control them properly
Eight fundamental brush strokes for formal regular script, "Kaisho" style
How to write kanji and hiragana (Japanese alphabet)
Practice and create your own calligraphy artwork
Experience both traditional and modern calligraphy writing
Sumi-e Japanese painting (Bamboo)
*Everybody is welcome – no prior art experience or Japanese language skills are necessary!
*Maximum number of participants is 6. Register soon!
*You will receive a digital textbook via email prior to the course.
*All sessions will be recorded and you get access to those videos.
*You will be asked to prepare your own calligraphy tools. If you live in Vancouver, you are welcome to pick up the tool package from Kisyuu. If you are purchasing your own tools, Kisyuu will send you the list of tools you will need along with possible options where you can purchase them (physical stores and online).
*You will be asked to set up a camera that can project you and/or your calligraphy paper during the course. A microphone is optional, but it is highly recommended since we would like to have this online course as close as possible to the in-person course.
*You will be invited to Kisyuu Calligraphy Slack channel where you can have Q&A sessions.
*Class fee is non-refundable, and this class will only take place if the minimum attendance number of 3 registrants are met. If the course is cancelled due to low number of registrants, it is an option to get refund (service fee which is 6% of the course fee is not refundable).
