FEE: $292 (2hrs lesson x 6 weeks)
**This course is suitable for students who have alraedy taken Special Seminar 101. Please check with Kisyuu if you’re unsure which course if suitable for you before registering.
During this 6-week course, we will look at calligraphy art from different angles. Not only polish your writing skills, but also train your creativity by exploring different styles of calligraphy.
This course is designed to create your final piece for the Shodo Canada Competition by the end of the course (deadline is February 28, 2026); however, it is NOT mandatory to submit your piece to the competition in order to register for the course. Even if you are purely interested in training your skills to create your own calligraphy art, you are welcome to join us!
Course contents include:
Explore an unique Semi-cursive style
Understand the development and beauty of Clerical style
Review Traditional style of Kana writing
Explore Modern Japanese Poetry writing style
Express yourself with One big kanji art
Experiment with abstract sumi-art, Bokusho
Create a final piece to submit the Shodo Canada Competition (there is dedicated time to work on your own art during each lesson)
*It is recommended to take one of the courses at Kisyuu Calligraphy prior to taking this course. But please email Kisyuu if you haven’t taken any courses but are interested in this course.

In order to submit your artwork to Shodo Canada competition, there is additional $100 entry fee on top of the course fee. Kisyuu will collect all the art by February 22nd and mail them to Toronto.
