New Year Kakizome Workshop for Students

CA$0.00

**This workshop is open to Kisyuu Calligraphy’s existing and former students. If you haven’t taken Kisyuu’s courses before but have experienced in calligraphy, please contact Kisyuu prior to your registration.

Start the new year with the traditional Japanese practice of Kakizome, the “first writing” of the year!

Kakizome is a long-held custom in which practitioners write meaningful words, poems, or auspicious phrases at the beginning of January to set intentions for the year ahead. It is a moment of renewal, reflection, and mindful creativity.

There are 7 total sessions offered across four dates:

January 3, 4, 10 & 11

• 11:00am – 12:30pm

• 2:00pm – 3:30pm

Each session includes an optional 30-minute refreshment break after the workshop.

Fee: $40 per session

Following the writing practice, participants are invited to stay and enjoy O-zenzai, a warm Japanese red bean mochi dessert traditionally enjoyed during the New Year season.

During this year’s Kakizome, we will write the 2026 zodiac animal along with your personal resolution for the year.

Please send your chosen word, phrase, or idiom two days before your session so I can prepare materials for you.
