7-Week Special Seminar (Winter 2019)


WHEN: Tuesdays from January 15th to February 26th, 2019 (7 sessions)

TIME: 6:30pm - 8:00pm

WHERE: 2305 West 7th Avenue V6K 1Y4, Vancouver BC

Explore your creativity and submit your art to the Shodo Canada Competition & Exhibition! This 7-Week Seminar is for people who would like to prepare for Shodo Canada Competition 2019 (click here for more information); the deadline for submission is February 28, 2019.

The session will be divided into two:
1. Learn and practice technique
2. Design and improve your unique piece for the competition

In this class, you will:

  • Refresh your writing skills you learned from previous courses;

  • Be prepared for the Competition and work on creating your own art piece;

  • Learn various ways of expression with a brush and ink followed by the instructor’s advise;

  • Learn Kana style and write haiku; and

  • Be able to observe and learn from others in the class

*REQUIREMENT to take this course: complete 8-Week Beginner Course or have experience in Japanese calligraphy and able to write Kaisho style.

*Submission to the competition is not necessary to take this course.

*Application fee for the competition is not included in the seminar fee.


REQUIREMENT: Completion of Kisyuu Calligraphy 8-Weeks Beginner Course and/or previous experience in Japanese calligraphy in a past. Lecture will be taught in English.


  • Lessons will be instructed by Kisyuu. Original worksheets and handouts will be provided.

  • Lesson will be taught in English. Knowledge of Japanese language is not necessary.


  • Please bring your own Calligraphy basic tools and materials. Additional paper is available for purchase in class if you let Kisyuu know in advance.


  • Registration fee is not refundable.

  • When you miss the class, you cannot send another person to fill your spot or ask for a refund.
